Other Sources: The Sanborn map collection, located in the Map Collection on the second floor of the King Library in the Science & Engineering Library, contains a uniform series of large-scale, detailed maps of Lexington (1886-1970) and other Kentucky cities. Block by block, these maps illustrate in outline form the site, size, shape and construction materials of all structures in the mapped areas. They provide a method of dating the original construction and changes over time to a specific site and taken as a whole show growth of the urban area over time.
The Hunter M. Adams College of Design Library houses the collections which pertain to architecture, interior design and historic preservation.
The collection is primarily a design collection with a strong emphasis on works by architects and designers in the U.S., Europe and contemporary Japan. Materials relating to historic interiors and furniture focus primarily on the U.S. and Great Britain.
