Digital facsimile page images of books, pamphlets, newspapers, and manuscripts of works printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and British North America as well as works in English printed elsewhere. From the first book published in English through the age of Spenser and Shakespeare, this collection contains the texts of about 100,000 of over 125,000 titles listed in Pollard and Redgrave's Short-Title Catalogue (1475-1640) and Wing's Short-Title Catalogue (1641-1700) and their revised editions, as well as the Thomason Tracts (1640-1661) collection and the Early English Books Tract Supplement. Coverage includes English literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, theology, music, fine arts, education, mathematics, and science.

Originally EEBO searched just the descriptive records ("full record") and displayed the images of each work. Now, we are pleased to make available the Early English Books Online-Text Creation Partnership (EEBO-TCP) Phase 1 content (25,000  keyed transcriptions), which provides searchable full-text access to many of the materials in EEBO. See below for details.

Keyword searches include the available searchable full text. To searches for your term(s) within the records or full text only of items that have been keyed to date, select the dropbox to limit to 'Items with keyed full text'. The total number of items that have been keyed into searchable full text is indicated in parentheses. You can also specify a specific title (in the Title Keyword field) to search the FT of just that item. By default all keyed items also have document images available to view; you do not have to limit those searches to Items with document images available.

In the Advanced Search, you can limit searches for full-text keywords within specific areas of text such as Tables of Contents, Verse or Letters.
